Northumberland RFU are holding their annual awards and presentation day, at Tynedale Rugby Club today - May 17th.

One group of awards is to recognise the work done by volunteers at all the clubs across the region, and following last years awards for Mick McLean and Pat Heard, 16 year old Dan Townshend was nominated by Seghill RFC to receive a Value the Volunteer award this year.

Dan, who is now taking his GCSE's, will undergo major knee surgery in the summer, after sustaining a serious knee injury at the start of the season.

Since his injury, the club have endeavoured to keep Dan involved with rugby at the club. Dan has takien his new responsiblities very seriously, and as a result, he has been assisting the coaches at training sessions and doing administrative work. He also organised the recent paintablling event, and will be arranging fixtures for the Colts at next weeks fixtures meeting. He also lead the team to their 43-0 away victory at Houghton.
