Yarnbury were in bouyant mood after a marvellous end to the season in Yorks 1 League even though they were relegated in the penultimate place after their heavy points deduction for administrative error didnt stop them gaining 11 wins last season.

Unfortunately even with only seven starters from the regular side of last season they never expected to end up with such a heavy defeat for the first league game.

Barnsley with ex Doncaster and Sedgeley Park player coach Ed Norris a tower in the pack soon began to put pressure on Yarnbury's scrum and line out and poor covering led to three tries in the first 20 minutes on Yarnbury's left side from winger Daryll Cheetham and another from close in from flanker Dave Reed.Try as they might through new stand off Carl Patterson with good positional play and distribution all Yarnbury attacks were pulled up short within 5 metres of the line to thwart winger Tom Daniels on the right and full back Andy Greaves after strong running in the backs.Yarnbury were again punished on the break for slack covering while on the attack through centre Mark Wragg.

Coach Bob Hood brought on veteran Ian Moule to shore up the pack in the second half and Yarnbury lost influential back row Richard Longstaff with a bruised hip from a clash with a Barnsley head.Several backs moves made good ground but were stopped short by the tough tackling Barnsley defence and further tries came throughout the second half but the Horsforth men never let theor morale drop and continued to press.

This was a big shock but showed that without experienceeven in this league you are likely to get punished.Hopefully Yarnbury can regroup over the next month to cover for injuries and unavailabilities.

Yarnbury fielded an very young side against a formidable senior Scunthorpe side but with the flush of colts enthusiasm and the cool head of captain and No8 Wayne Butterfield the team responded in great style to carve out a deserved win with man of the match 17yr old Daniel Pound at Stand Off kicking the lincolnshire side to death with his accurate punts. He scored the forth try with an outrageous dummy to seal the game with Yarnbury's fourth try which he converted to add to his personal tally of 14 points with conversions and a penalty.

Other tries came from Centre Jack Moglia, full back Alex Clarke and wing forward James Daffern.
