‘ Seasons opening toughie fields 3 debutantes’
At less than 24 hours notice and Yatton’s two other senior sides fully committed, 3rd XV Skipper Lars Hullah had a frantic overnight and Saturday morning on his mobile phone rounding up players for this season opening friendly.
Three players made their debut as they travelled to play at Kingswood being pitched against a more experienced and physically stronger side. But Yatton put in both a herculean effort and managed to dominate the set piece scrummaging.
Yatton’s three tries came from Dave Edwards’s first and Adam Noble’s brace born of experience.
As the hurried and unexpected exertion took its toll, in the dying summer sun, Kingswood clinched their victory with two converted tries in the last ten minutes.
Yatton’s 3rd XV play in the Somerset Three North league and would be pleased to hear more spectators next Saturday at their first league match of the season, home against Bath side Old Culverhaysians 2nds.
