Camberley Ladies reach semis at Windsor 7s

Camberley ladies made a successful start to their sevens season on Saturday by getting to the semi-finals of the Windsor rugby tournament. With a difficult fifteens season behind them, the Black and Ambers were determined to dictate the pace of the first match against Twickenham. They used the space well to create gaps and scored within the opening couple of minutes. They held possession for much of the the rest of the game, convincingly beating the opposition 33- 5. They faced Richmond in the second game and continued to dominate by scoring three tries in the opening half. Richmond came back strongly in the second half, using their power and speed to score twice. Although Richmond picked up momentum, Camberley's defence held strong and prevented them from scoring again to take the final result to 17-12 to Camberley. The final pool game score Camberley drawn against Brunel University and once more, Camberley used a combination of patience and space to create their chances. Once a gap was created they had the pace and determination to sprint through and score. Although Brunel fought back, Camberley won the match 17-7- putting them into the cup competition. Here they faced Ealing, who opted to crash the ball through the middle of the park using a couple of powerful runners. The tactic worked well and Camberley were unable to stop them from snatching the first points. The rest of the first half was neck and neck with both sides defending and attacking well. Camberley scored next but Ealing scored shortly afterwards, taking the score to 10- 14 at the break. Ealing took their opportunities well in the second half, once again opting to use their powerful runners to crash the ball up the middle and take the game away from Camberley. The final score stood at 27-14 to Ealing. Next week Camberley travel to Lytchett to compete in their second sevens tournament of the season.
