Deepings made a blistering start with a storming run from Chris Day who opened up the score sheet within minutes.

The pace was then set with power play from James Hayward, Tim Shilling and Felix Cunningham who kept the Lions pack on the back foot.

The pressure soon paid off as Dan Young seized the ball and ripped through to score.

Chris Day then topped this up with his second try. Peterborough then dug in deep and held Deepings at bay with a desperate sustained struggle as Tom Williamson, Levan Stapleton and Adam Hyman pounded away at their line before Michael Harrison cut through to score.

Deepings racked up more tries from Ollie Baxter, Dan Young and Tom Williamson who snatched the ball in mid flight for a sneaky try which was converted by Sam Papworth.

More scores were made first by George Fitzpatrick and then by Tim Shilling who fought his way through like a demented ferret.

Tom Williamson then gained his second, Chris Day made his hat trick and Dan Young settled the result also getting his hat trick.

The Deepings score was boosted by the conversions of Levan Stapleton and the power of his boot.

In spite of the result credit should go to the spirit shown by Peterborough Lions in this only their second game to date.

They never gave up and kept their spirits up to the final whistle.

Deepings man of the match: Tim Shilling
