It was almost a wintery day as Seghill took to the field to play the Ponteland B team, in their first of three games in the opening round of the Tynedale 7's.

Seghill struggled for the first 2 minutes, mostly being forced to defend against a very well drilled Ponteland B side. Finally Seghill Seghill got to grips with the competition and their opposition, and were able to break through the Ponteland defence eventually, winning 28 – 0. The tries coming from Ryan Wood and Callum Burgess.

The second game was more defensive, but the lads managed to break down the Wharfedale B team twice with tries coming from Callum Burgess and William Ramsey, eventaully winning 12 – 0.

The third game saw a weaker side fielded by Seghill, as coaches Dave Warner and John Hall decided to rest players and give a run out for the subs. The game however ended with a drubbing from a very physical Aspatria team by 33 points to 0.

The day took its toll on the players with injuries being sustained by Jake Powers, Matthew Hall, Callum Burgess and Adam, (the bullet), Roughhead. Some managed to shrug off their injuries to continue into the quarter finals of the cup, after finishing runners-up in their pool, having won two of their three games. After a much needed lunch break, Seghill took to the field against a team they had yet to beat throughout the season, MORPETH, their nemesis.

As usual Morpeth were well disciplined, and although they fielded a team that were small in stature, with the exception of the front row, the whole team were big in how they played, giving great width with their passing skills. Seghill defence was broken down by the Morpeth scrum half whose kick down field eventually went into touch. From this position they turned over the lineout and scored a run away first try. Seghill showed good defensive skills to hold Morpeth to the one try in the first half, and the second half was a lot more competitive, but again Morpeth broke through with a massive run by one of their front line props, covering 20 metres of the pitch before passing it off to their winger who ran the ball in for the second try, GAME OVER.

It was encouraging for the team to get through to the quarter finals of the cup and, overall, they played very well, with the injuries sustained, and with this being the first time that they had played a 7's tournament. Coach Dave Warner will be arranging further 7's games locally, and separate to next season's fixtures, as an additional competition to increase skills and with the hope of bringing some silver to Seghill RFC.

The players now look forward to their end of season presentation being held at Welfare Park, Seghill on the 1st May 2008 .
