Yarnbury showed one change from the victory last week for the arrival of Scarborough with Lawrence Smith returning at full back .Scarborough also only had one change from the team that downed Castleford last week with a very big pack for Yarnbury to compete against and a smattering of antipodean's helping their cause.Opposite them were a locally produced Yarnbury side of an average age of 24 years ready to do battle.

Yarnbury took the game to Scarborough from the start with a confidence they can win all their remaining games having taken four wins from the last five matches and the forwards solid scrums gave half backs Oliver Cashman and Stand Off Johnny Moore the platform to move the ball around and test the Scarborough defence and an early score looked likely.Unfortunately,it came from the opposition.Yarnbury nearly conceded when a clean interception by winger Rob Squires on the left saw a chase by three Yarnbury backs 50 metres when Chris Flowers made enormous amounts of ground to ankle tap the Scarborough man just short and the danger cleared.Bouyed by this first attack Scarborough won quick ball and for the Scarborough wing to go in at the right corner and prop Mathew Jones converting.

Yarnbury were focussed and the forwards made excellent ground for Lawrence Smith to link well from full back to go in on the overlap and John Moore slotting a magnificent conversion from wide left. The game was fast, entertaining and expansive and this set the scene for firstly Yarnbury to take the initiative with a kick through and chase from man of the match Jason Avieson John Moore adding the extras. then the best move of the match saw good quick ball from a scrum with the front row of Adam Pike,Richard Lister and Adam Renolds strike cleanly and Oliver Cashman and John Moore worked the ball wide left through centre Danny Thompson for Chris Flowers to finish in trademark style in the corner for John Moore to add the extra points making the score 21-7 to Yarnbury at half time with the breeze to come in their favour.A mightly impressive first 40 minutes and possibly the best team display this season as Yarnbury go from strength to strength during the second half of the season.

Things got worse for Scarborough three minutes into the dsecond half when scrum half Oliver Cashman broke clear from a scrum and won the race to the line to go near the posts with the cover desperately trying to close him down.John Moore again adding the conversion.Scarborough were too good a team to give up and the forwards started to disrupt the Yarnbury Line Outs and put more pressure on the Yarnbury pack in the scrums and pressure told when back rower Louis Carl went over close to the posts for Mathew Jones to convert. The pressure was releaved by the diminutive stand off John Moore having an excellent game showed the ball and with a shimmy glided under the posts to convert his own try.Scarborough got a consolation try when Mathew Jones crashed over soon after.

Yarnbury substitutes prop Andy Butterfield and full back Graham Maycock both added frsh legs in the second half and linked the play well in front row and three quarters respectively.

Yarnbury entertain local rivals Bradford Salem next Saturday at Brownberrie Lane which should be a tense but exciting local derby for all the supporters of both clubs.

A hastily arranged fixture saw Yarnbury travel to Selby with possibly the youngest senior team fielded in recent memory. With 9 of the team under 19 and only 2 over 30 it was a very youthful side that out scored the very experienced Selby team by 17 points to nil in the first half. Gavin Stowell opened the scoring with quick backs play from Daniel Pound at stand off and seniors debutant Alex Teasdale. Pound added the extras. Tom Hunter scored the second with a strong cross field run Pound hit the post with the conversion attempt. Adam Corcoran finished the half with a strong run down the wing after swift handling from the backs found the second rower for the day loitering out wide. Pound failed again with the conversion.

The second half saw Yarnbury soak up attack after attack. Tom Baxter, making his Yarnbury senior debut picked up at no.8 from a few scrums but was held up short, Selby’s experience and strength kept them in the game. Selby scored a converted try and an unconverted try after strong forward play that the youthful Yarnbury side could not hold out forever. Selby played their part in allowing the young side to play, although they were allowed to “old man” them, they never showed any anger that often comes in these sorts of games. This shows the strength of junior rugby at Yarnbury and the promise that future seasons will bring.
