Yarnbury rested young colt Adam Malthouse as he was with Yorkshire Under 20's on Sunday and with Dave Moss unavailable and Bruce Johnson Laird injured the back row welcomed Hornets wing forward Tom Fox for his debut in a youthful back row with in form Richard Longstaff and student Joe Mills making up the youthful trio and it was these three that ripped into Heath from the start securing good ball for the willing backs to run the ball into the freshening wind.
From the first scrum when Heath were shunted backwards the pattern of play was defined and Yarnbury immediately ran the ball through influential Stand Off John Moore and Danny Thompson at inside centre making an immediate impact in the line making good ground.Heath did not control the threat and he was clean through after 5 mins on a diagonal run to the posts with the conversion gobbled up by the deminutive stand off.At this stage Yarnbury maybe thought it would be too easy to rack up the points especially as they were into a strong wind but Heath were also willing to run the ball even managing to get bad ball away to their backs with the scrums and line outs a problem for them. They are a competitive team used to living off scraps in this league and making mid table because of it.The half backs Gary Pidgeon and Mark White were giving good service to the big aptly named centre Luke Colgher who slipped the ball to hooker Dave Montgomery for the equalising try converted by Full Back Charles Thomas.Joe Mills rampaged throught the Heath defence for the second try to regain the lead but Heath responded with the wind and after good pressure Martin Shaw went in on the right wing for Heath converted by Lomas. The game was too open now and Stand Off John Moore put Yarnbury ahead again with an outrageous dummy to slip under the posts and convert from close range.Heath finished the half with a third try from Luke Colgher barging over and this was converted to make the half score 19-21 with the wind to come in favour of the home side.
Yarnbury turned the pressure into points in the second half with a further 24 points on the board and reduced the halifax side to defending in their own third of the field unable to get forward with a biting wind in their faces.Johin Moore scored a good second try after more pressure and a swerving dummy and second row Dave Hunter stretched for the line in the right hand corner from a ruck for his first try for the Horsforth side.Wing forward Richard Longstaff scored again breaking from a ruck in midfield and is making a habit of this type of play with his strength and determination and winger Chris Flowers was put in on the left for the final try after good hands from Jason Avieson who was kept quite by good Heath defence but allowing more space for his colleagues.John Moore added two conversions for another impressive performance from Yarnbury who find themselves off the bottom of the league despite the hefty points deduction and wait for Scarborough and their South Sea contingemt on Easter Saturday at Brownberrie Lane.
