Worcester Wild Ones returned from their Tour of South West Wales
unbeaten. On Saturday they visited Pembroke RFC. The Wild Ones produced
an excellent performance, full of enterprising play. With the forwards
producing a glut of ball, the half backs of George Wooton, and Cameron
Hunter, distributed the ball with precision and creativity, which in
turn allowed the elegant running of Dan Cottrill time to weave his
magic, and release the prolific finisher Willem Stanley to score an
impressive six tries. With Luke Gailey offering his more subtle straight
running, and Max Smith running circles around the opposition, the Wild
Ones played some lovely Rugby. The tries were scored on a regular basis
with one from Dan Cottrill, one from George Wooton, and it was good that
the forwards were rewarded for their fine efforts as Lawrence Stephens,
Ed Griffiths, and a brace from the ever reliable Bradley Smith
completing the scoring, along with Willem Stanleys six tries.
On the following day, the Wild Ones visited Tenby, and with the
preperation time limited to one minute, and some weary legs, it looked
like the Wild Ones would perhaps struggle. As with most matches, the
opposition were physically huge compared to Worcester. But the Wild Ones
again put in a marvellous performance. The adventurous play of the
previous day was continued, and Tenby could not handle the movement, the
points of attack continuosly changing, or the sheer ferocity of the
Worcester defence. Allthough the back play was of a high quality , the
scoring came down to the supporting forwards. This time Ed Griffiths
grabbed a couple, Bradley Smith added another, and Willem Stanley
chipped in with one try to take his weekend total to seven. This would
give the Wild Ones plenty of confidence to take into the latter part of
this season, whereupon Festivals & Tournaments are almost constant until
the season ends.
