Bredon U12 A - 0

Malvern U12s A - 33

In fine weather conditions Malvern took every opportunity to run at Bredon and a ruthless finishing display gave them a well deserved five try win over an off colour home side.

The Malvern forwards made an immediate impact on the game with some good work from hooker Ryan Williamson and prop Ben Richards keeping the rucks and mauls under control. Scrum half Frankie Purcell took advantage of the possession with fast and decisive distribution which opened up the play for the backs to cross the gain line with almost every attack.

Despite the Malvern domination, it took eight minutes for the Bredon defence to finally succumb to the visitor’s pressure. Having lost a line out on the Bredon five yard line, Malvern collected the Bredon defensive kick and spread the ball to the opposite wing. After recycling from a fine Bredon defensive tackle Malvern then scored their first try through a Rory Atkins break.

Bredon restarted with an unfortunate kick into touch so Malvern won a scrum at half way which unsettled the home side. An in form Sam Ladd was quick to take advantage with a well timed interception resulting in a thirty yard dash for Malvern’s second try.

After conceding two tries in succession, the Bredon forwards showed fantastic spirit by pushing Malvern back but they failed to take advantage. Having absorbed the pressure in defence, Malvern counter attacked with style ending an impressive drive with a classy running finish as Harry Robinson and Sam Ladd combined to pull the Bredon defence into the tackles and give Dan Batty a clear path along the wing for the third try.

The second half started with Malvern once more on the attack as some good forward work got the ball over the try line but they failed to score after some dogged Bredon defending. The resulting twenty two drop was collected by second row James Richards who made an excellent run at the Bredon defence and then released for prop Jack Curtis to score on the left wing.

Malvern continued to dominate through most of the second half but some indiscipline started to creep into their game as they went offside from a series of kick and chase plays. Bredon used the resulting penalties to get back into the game and looked likely to pull back a try until Malvern added a fifth try when Ted Hill and Henry Stratton combined through the backs to create an opportunity for impressive newcomer Harry Robinson to score. Dan Batty made his fourth conversions to complete a good run out for the visitors.
