Fielding a side with sparkling young talent in the backs, Towcestrians finally established control and a winning margin, only to see their hopes dashed as Peterborough Lions snatched victory at the death, reversing a fate inflicted by Tows on so many other sides this season.

Tows looked very sprightly and keen to give the ball ‘air’ as Colts winger Aaron Goodman ran behind the post for Matt Yuill to convert. However, as so often this season, relieving kicks from defence went astray. On one occasion, failure to find touch and putting the ball in space eventually allowed the Peterborough Lions to counter attack. Their No8 split the fragmented Tows defence and his pas put his supporting 2nd Row in to cross under the posts and finish the first half end with 7Pts apiece.

Tows young backs, with two colts, Goodman and Falvey continually attempted to put moves together and at last created handling move from deep in defence for Mark Yeates to finish with a try. However, it was the experienced Lions back row who got their side back into the game when the Tows defence was again found lacking allowing them to score from the base of a scrum. With the game now in the balance, Tows were again attempting to run again from deep when they threw a wayward pass behind their winger only to see the ever present Lions South African No8 grab the opportunity and saunter over for a try. Tows threw everything at the visitors line for the final 8 minutes, but on this occasion they came up short.
