Having won their last six games in a row, the Swallows were hoping to continue their winning streak.
Thames having only managed to bring 8 players, the Swallows lent them 4 players for a 12 aside game. Both teams were keen to have a game as all games had been cancelled since the new year.
Swallows started out with intent to take the game to Thames early on and took the lead - try from Chantelle Savage. Shortly after saw Savage grabbed a loose ball on the half way line, evaded two lunging tackle attempts and sped up the rest of the field unmolested. Laura Mac Donald also scored.
This paved the way for a period of heavy pressure which tested the discipline of the Swallows. Resulting in them conceding a number of penalties.
Thames took advantage of this and punished Swallows 5 metres from the tryline, ever reliable kicker Amy Gregory booted the ball out of the Swallows 22. Half time 15-0.
In the second half the Swallows carried on where they’d left off and although fine defence from Thames they just couldn't kept the Swallows at bay. Laura MacDonald scoring from scrum. Final score 20-0
These two sides share a similar mentality of attacking rugby and both possess some real potential. Despite the score this was a close hard fought game between the two team.
