As 2009 draws to a close, Southwold Swallows still remain undefeated in South Eastern Division 3.
Away for Fakenham Foxes, the battle started at a fast pace and the Swallows were first to get inside their opponents’ 22 and wasted no opportunity to take the lead by in the first 5 minutes.
Fakenham immediate reply was to play their way back up field, but a dropped pass, the Swallows scored yet again.
Our very own Scottish Braveheart Laura MacDonald stepped up to convert, giving the Swallows a lead 12 within the first 10 minutes
The Foxes tried to respond but despite plenty of possession were making too many errors, and the Swallows were soon within striking distance of the line again.
With strong scrummaging and back quick hands saw the Swallows leading 38 -0 at half time.
The second half saw the Foxes find some momentum, with some excellent tackling and rucking. However after 3 injuries for the Foxes were down to 10 players.
Foxes desperately needed a quick response to counter this setback but instead it was Swallows who struck again on their 22, with loose ball saw Claire Phelps pick and run the full lenght of the pitch. Foxes number 12 close in pursuit she tackled her 2 metres from the the try line. Donna Cooper in close support recovered the ball to score a try. Final score 46-0
2010 snow has been a nightmare for games with 3 call offs, next game 14th Feb - Thames at home 2pm kick off and 28th Feb Deeping Devils
Southwold are always looking for new players, training every wednesday Southwold Common 7pm-9pm.
