The 23-year-old is a former member of Northampton Saints academy and is happy playing at both inside and outside centre.

Exeter Chiefs’ head coach Rob Baxter said today: “I feel Drew is a player with a lot of potential, he has showed good speed and strength in a number of difficult games for Coventry this season and has proved at times to be an elusive runner.

“Drew has an opportunity, along with every other member of the squad, to work hard in training and show us that he can make a positive contribution to this club’s progress in the final third of the season.”

Locke said: “I am thankful this has all been sorted out. It has been a tough time as I thought I would end up without a club. The last few months have been quite distressing just because we have not been getting paid but this was my first year at Coventry and they gave me my chance, and I am really thankful to them for that.

“I was quite fortunate to play well down here and obviously Rob and Ali noticed me. They have given me a chance and the hard work starts now!”
