Supermarine travelled to Bournemouth to play Oakmeadians on Sunday in their last game of 2009. The first half saw Marine do well turning over the ball on numerous occasions through the scrum and line out. Marine had most of the possession in the fist half and spent a lot of it camped in Oakmeadians 22, but failed to capitalise on this and convert efforts into points. Indeed Supermarine looked the stronger better drilled side throughout but Oakmedians capitalised on mistakes with a speedier set of backs that resulted in break away tries leaving Marine a little deflated.
But positives can be taken from the game, Supermarine never gave up and a team effort saw Marine gaining ground with a final drive by forwards for Captain Claire Chard to cross the try line in second half. There was also some good kicking and runs by the backs to break the game line. The scoreline, as the Oakmeadians captain noted, didn't do the game justice but more work is needed by the Supermarine team in the new year to close the gaps in defending play.
Try scorer: Claire Chard
