Dec
Worcester under 11s travelled to local rivals Hereford on Sunday, and
came away with a terrific victory. At times their play was of the
highest quality, with players looking for gaps, offloading before
contact, and playing with vision and aggression. The front row of
Bradley Smith, Will Shaw, and Oli Lycett, set the platform for a
dominant forward display, where it allowed flyers Lawrence Stephens and
Alex Forrestor freedom to cause havoc in the Hereford defence, and
jackel all the loose ball , starving Hereford of possession. The Wild
Ones oozed confidence, especially with the ball in hand, and attacked
Hereford at will. Max Smith made a terrific break down the wing, cut
inside, passed to Stephens, who offloaded in the tackle to the ever
supporting Forrestor to crash over, Cameron Hunter converting. With the
forwards supplying a glut of ball, Cameron Hunters excellent service was
gleefully accepted by fly half Rhodri Williams, who controlled
proceedings at fly half. With this quality ball, the midfield of Luke
Gailey and JJ Hunt began to create gaps in the Hereford defence, and it
did not take long before Hunt charged over from the 22. A series of
forward drives ensued, and Oli Lycett picked up and attacked the
blindside and duly touched down. Hunter converted. On the stroke of half
time, Max Hawksworth began a move in his own 22, he weaved his way
through a series of would be defenders, the move was carried on by Will
Shaw, who popped the ball to Bradley Smith who was running at full tilt,
the defender had little hope of stopping him as he crashed over. The
second half saw Hereford enjoy some possession, but an aggressive
defence halted all attacks, and with the Wild Ones winning all the ball
on the floor, the scoreboard ticked over regularly. From a five metre
scrum, the ball was won cleanly, Cameron Hunter picked up , threw a
dummy , and accelerated over the line. Luke Gailey converted.
Hawksworth, for the second time broke from deep, the ball was
transferred to Kian Moysey who ran around the winger, and cleverly
popped the ball inside to the supporting Smith , who scored. Again
Gailey converted. On the stroke of full time, Williams made a clean
break from fly half, but was stopped agonisingly short of the line. The
ball was quickly recycled and spun wide whereupon Bradley Smith took two
defenders over the line to complete his hat trick. A marvellous team
performance was watched by an appreciative crowd. The Wild Ones will
surely look forward to resuming competitive matches after the xmas
break.
