A certain Martin Johnson returned to rugby at Kenilworth on Saturday – donning the No 60 shirt (along with 20 others) in a birthday celebration game between and Andy Clarke (60) select and a Simon Bladon (50) select.
The Bladon select comprising mainly Pirates but with a sprinkling of colts who took great delight in stepping onto the field with their hero (Martin, that is, not Simon).
For the record the score was 48-33 to the Bladon Select with two tries each for Russell White and Andy Bladon (some of Simon) and singles for Tony Philpot, Gary Stephens, Mark Nicholas and Ross Lowthian. Chris Sibley was successful with two conversions and singles for Russ White and Paddy Flavelle.
Peterborough need not fear – despite interest from Mr Johnson we are passed the deadline for signing players for next Saturday’s crucial relegation encounter!
