The Swallows, Southwold Rugby Club womens team, got their League programme in South Eastern 3 off to a flying start with a clinical, comprehensive 10 try romp against their Norfolk rivals. Indeed it took just a minute for impressive No.8 Bev Whyte to open the scoring and tries followed at regular intervals. This is Fakenhams first season in the league and although competitive in the set piece the Swallows ruthlessly exposed the visitors lack of experience in open play. Southwolds pack did all the hard work with the experience of Sarah Doddington, Karen Fletcher, Laura Nutt and captain Laura Marjoram and the pace and exuberance of Clare Phelps and Bev Whyte ensured the Swallows a regular supply of ball. The black and gold three quarters didn’t disappoint crossing the line nine times between them with new recruits scrum half Laura McDonald scoring four times and full back Chantelle Savage twice. Anna Harrison was thrilled to score her first try for the club whilst the rest of the points came from Amy Gregory, one try and three conversions, and Kim Roberts, one try and one conversion. The Swallows were particularly pleased on two fronts. Firstly to see Sally Turner and Anna Peck back on the pitch and secondly their ability to turn pressure into points.
