Verwood’s sparkling home form continued with a comprehensive demolition of a spirited Stoneham side .
Verwood’s continued excellent form is down to around team play and fitness which is epitomised by there giant prop Ian Mackrell who had another storming game.
Players requiring special mention are Duncan Cook this season’s new second row and Charlie Cockram (2 tries) who both had near faultless games. But the entire team worked tirelessly together for the full 80 minutes. If only Verwood had played like this at the beginning of the season they would have almost certainly gained promotion. The next league game on 12th April will be quite a finale to the season as Verwood’s opposition, Kingsclere, will need to win if they are to be promoted.
After the match Verwood held a presentation for one of there stalwart supporters, Roy Hacker (first picture attached) thanking him for his loyal support of the club over the years as landlord of the Fayrewood pub which has now closed down.
The try scorers against Stoneham were:
Darren (Magic) Kendall
Steve Thomas
Charlie Cockram 2
Matt Pike 2
Mickey Mazzeo
Mark Hutchinson
Aaron Lawes
Dan Moore who also kicked 7 conversions
There will be a friendly game against Trojans this Saturday 5th April kicking off at 3.00p.m. The annual touch rugby tournament will be taking place soon so watch the press for details.
