Supermarine's first home game of the season turned out to be a well-matched battle against Bournemouth visitors Oakmedian Ladies.
Supermarine were again under strength for 10mins, starting the game with 13 players. This didn't stop Marine camping out in Oakmedians 22 until the remaining players arrived. Supermarine played a outstanding first half with strong attacking and defending alike, but came up against equal effort from the opposition. Possession was in Marine favour right up until the whistle but the half time score remained nil - nil.
Oakmedians restarted with fresh legs using the full 5 subs allowed throughout the second half. Supermarine battled on making tremendous team efforts but again not crossing the line. A breakaway try from the Oakmedian backs left the home side dispirited and a second try followed in quick succession from the visitors which left Marine facing an uphill battle at 0 - 12.
With renewed determination Marine looked a new team with tremendous runs from forwards and backs alike. Marine went on to score a well-worked team try with Libbie Jones finally crossing the line. With a draw now in their sights the home team pulled out all the stops in the final quarter. However, the challenged proved to be just beyond their reach.
The game ended at 5 - 12.
Supermarine play their next league fixture away at Bristol rivals Old Redcliffians on Sunday 25th Oct. Their next home fixture is on Sunday 1st November against St Mary's Old Boys. For more info please visit www.supermarineladies.co.uk
