Marlow 3 - Salisbury 10
After a 2 week lay off from league rugby Salisbury travelled to resume their duties against a recently boyant Marlow, having won their previous 3 fixtures. The afternoon's events were dictated by unpleasant weather conditions, with it being very windy making kicking from hand and ground very difficult. Initially the forward confrontation was fierce, with both sides eager to produce good possession. The game semed somewhat disjointed and erratic throughout but Salisbury had some good spells which were rewarded in the 10th minute when Tom Pottage, receiving a good ball on the loop went over to open Salisbury's account. Dave Thorpe initially took the ball wide and set up a good platform for the ball to be recycled to produce this try. The blustery conditions prevented Pottage from converting his own try. Both sides were not playing their best rugby of the season but Salisbury conciously attempting to produce as much good play as possible were frustrated as this went unrewarded for much of the time. However approaching half time saw Salisbury's Full Back Richard Lang went over to take the half time score to 10-0 with 2 well taken tries for the half.
The second half became a somewhat miss mash of rugby, with a spattering of potentially effective rugby, but on the whole the weather conditions did not permit either side to produce their best form and no further points were scored by Salisbury. Marlow managed to score a penalty in the 80th minute for their 3 consolation points.
With another break in the fixture list on Saturday Salisbury will be mindful that the coming fortnight's training will be important if they are to maintain their grip on a potential play off situation. Both Chippenham and Swanage won their fixtures and Salisbury now meet High Wycombe and Henley Wanderers on the 12th and 19th April respectively, both home fixtures with kick off at 3 p.m.
