Towcestrians didn’t find first gear throughout this match, where a comedy of errors belied recent encouraging form, as players who had looked so creative in recent games were simply out of from.

Leicester Forest started the game in more workmanlike mood and within 10 minutes they had scored 2 tries and a penalty as Tows failed to clear their lines with aimless defensive kicks. Tows struggled desperately to get into the game and had no answer to the Forest rush defence tactic as time and again their were forced into errors to hand back any advantage. A well taken try from Matt Huck did get Tows on the score sheet but it still put Tows 10pts adrift at half time.

Throughout the second half Tows again failed to cut out elementary errors and wrong options and as a result they spurned clear scoring chances. Forest sealed their win with a well taken try and Tows’ only positive note from a disappointing game was that they had at least fielded 4 Colts players, three of whom - Charlie Moulton, Chris George and Ashley King – had each made their first team debut’s.

Next Week Towcestrians are scheduled to play at home in a 2nd round Alliance Cup clash with local rivals, Brackley RFC. KO 2.30pm
