Supmarine's second game of the season took place on Sunday, a friendly against Bristol side Old Redcliffians at Supermarine rugby club. Marine kitted out with just 15 players, giving opportunity to new and experienced players to try out different positions. The first quarter was played at a fast pace, with Old Reds nearly slipping in a try, only the corner flag denying them the points. The hot weather meant that the fast pace was difficult to sustain; this led to Marine gaining composure and slotting in a few tries, most notably a promptly taken line out by Teresa Bickell put Old Reds on the back foot, and a series of quick hands lead to a clinical looking try. A few well driven mauls by the forwards and some crafty back work saw Marine dominating for most of the game. Credit is due to Marine's first time kicker Claire Legg, who scored 6 out of 8 conversions. Old Reds, who played with 7 new players, fought right to the last whistle, which meant that the pressure was never alleviated. The score line bodes well for Marine for the start of the season, a tougher friendly against Cheltenham, who play a league up. This will take place this Sunday, the 27th, at Supermarine Rugby Club, time TBC.
