The AGRFU women's team arrived in Hong Kong to get ready for the challenge of gaining the Hong Kong 7's title. The women's tournament is played before the men's tournament and the AGRFU are faced with Canada in their first match who are ranked 4th in the world. The Canadians are preparing for the Women's Rugby World Cup which is held in Dubai on March 2009. Up to 7 teams from this Hong Kong tournament will qualify for the World Cup.
The AGRFU team is made up of women from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha and Kuwait and they are looking forward to the mighty challenge they face. Captain Jenny Thompson, a player at Dubai Hurricanes, said; "Hong Kong will be a very good gauge of our standing amongst some of the top sides and we are well up for the challenge ahead." The Gulf are paired with Singapore in their group too, a side they beat in Doha last year.
