The Southwold Swallows have continued their top of the league success, 7th December playing away to Thames Toucanettes who are new to South East 3 Division.
The Southwold Swallows had a comprehensive win with a full team performance. They dominated possession and recycled the ball well to set up opportunities throughout the game. New to the front row Mandy Easter propping, all scrums were solid and set a platform for the backs to run attacking lines with strong running from all the backs. Kick off, Thames kicked the ball into the Southwold end the ball it was court by captain Ellisa Cox who had a awesome run managing to run through the Thames defence getting a try in the first 3 minutes.
The forwards hit the rucks hard and broke the game line with hard running from depth off the consistent distribution from Ellisa Cox. The back row was quick off the set pieces to recycle the ball with great team work from flanker Laura Marjoram and number 8 Bev Whyte.
Defence was strong throughout the team from stealing at lineout by Mandy Easter and Micharle Scarle, to poaching of the ball by hooker Laura Nutt. The backs kept the Thames Toucanettes attacks dampened with strong tackling from Jeama Donnington, Shelly Harlow, Nina Roe, Donna and Kim Roberts.
Praise has to go to the Thames Toucanettes girls who continued to fight and come back with every set play, but ultimately the Swallows passing out of contact and dominance in the set pieces allowed the backs to run free and convert the opportunities created.
