Cambridge ended a turbulent week with some cheer on the pitch following a 35-27 win over Coventry. With cost- cutting measures introduced in the build- up to the game, including the
cancellation of player contracts and the removal of Director of Rugby Bob Crooks, it was always going to be interesting to see how those left behind would react. But the team put
together by Danny Hunter and Gareth McComb delivered the goods with a bonus- point victory.
The win keeps Cambridge safely placed in mid- table, while, at the top, Jersey are still in command after they managed to overturn a one- point half- time deficit against Wharfedale and
win 32-14 in the Yorkshire Dales. Fylde and Rosslyn Park’s title challenge appears to be faltering, though, with both beaten for the second week running. Fylde fell to 20-19 defeat at
Barking after Craig Ratford kicked a match- winning penalty at the death for the home side and Rosslyn Park were cut down to size in the Forest of Dean by confident Cinderford.
Ealing, however, appear to have got their campaign back on track after enduring a mid- season wobble. Mike Cudmore’s men underlined their title credentials with a 31-19 win away to
Stourbridge, twenty- one of those points coming without reply in the first half.
Birmingham & Solihull still prop up the table after being on the receiving eStephenson’s last- gasp try saw Blackheath win at Sedgley Park.
