Bath Rugby Foundation's Women and Girls' Project is going from strength to strength. After winning the Parliamentary Award for impact in the community in 2011, 2012 looks just as promising.

The girls' project, predominantly delivered in Somerset and Dorset & Wiltshire, has made a new link with Truro College in Cornwall. On Wednesday 18th January Truro College's girls rugby team took to the road up the M5 for a special visit to the city of Bath and specifically to Bath Rugby's famous Recreation Ground. A well-recognised college delivering a variety of courses, they offer a huge selection of sporting qualifications and also focus on their rugby for both boys and girls.

The visit began with a stadium tour of the Recreation Ground and the girls learning the history of the hallowed turf. The itinerary was packed, with the evening involving the girls putting on their boots and taking to Bath Rugby's training ground for a fixture against the Bath Rugby Girls' Development Squad. Talented girls from all over the South West put on a great spectacle on a cold winter's evening. Jimmy Deane, Bath Rugby Foundation Manager said, "I am so pleased with the direction in which the girls project is heading. The coaching the Foundation has been delivering in local Secondary schools has been having a clear impact - we see many girls starting with this and then taking it up in their local clubs or coming along to our development sessions. I'd like to send a big thank you to Truro college for coming up and to Julie Penprase specifically for co-ordinating the visit."

Girls' development sessions attract girls from as far as Swindon to Gloucester and provide a free training sessions to all girls aged 11-18. For more information please contact caryl.thomas@bathrugby.com.
