Imagine being selected one week by Sean Lineen to play against Edinburgh and the following week being selected by Craig Levein to play for Scotland against England

Well that was the dilemma for some of the Glasgow players of 1872 former Hawk Duncan Weir with is soccer pedigree could have done well back then

As the Glasgow players were preparing to take on Edinburgh for the first time at Burnbank on 23 November Queens Park were running trials for players to be selected for the first official Scotland v England "soccer" match to be held at Hamilton Crescent a week later on St Andrews Day

One such player was William Cross of Glasgow Accies which is not suprising as the previous year he had the distinction of scoring the first ever points recorded in the history of international rugby when he converted a goal against England at Raeburn Place

As events turned out the Glasgow Accie players appeared to refuse selection to concentrate on the match against Edinburgh and Queens Park simply took on England on their own the result being a goalless draw
