Another spirited performance against Bournville but another defeat, 13-50. We were in the game at half-time and early in the second half but once again lost a number of tries in quick succession, just like the last few weeks. The good news is that we have now played the top five and, on paper, our next run of games is against teams in the lower half of the league. It is stating the obvious that we need to start winning against these lower placed teams and start moving up the league. If you did not make the game then the programme can be viewed on the web site, together with the match report and the piccies. Look out for two piccies of No8 Ian Phillips attempting a drop goal!

· The two’s travelled to Newbold and a mix of old uns and young uns came up with a good 32-10 win. Good news here is that Jack Gibson returned after his jaw break and came through unscathed. Dominic’s match report is on the web site.

· The three’s roller coaster season continues and after winning 85-5 against Pinley they lost 10-63 at home to Old Coventrians and Simon’s report (and excuses) are on the web site.

· The colts had, arguably, the result of the weekend by defeating Old Halesonians in the National Colts Cup, 17-5 and they now face Burton, away, to be played before the 20th Nov.

· Two footnotes from last week’s games:

o It was a bit of a landmark day for the Povey family on Saturday. Jake turned out for the ones, Max for the twos and dad for the threes. When asked why he did not have a representative in the colts Pove replied “well not that I know of!”

o One big bragging right came from prop Richard Moon who claimed that his opposite number, ex Coventry prop Steve Wilkes had to retire ‘cos I did his shoulder in with my superior scrummaging!’

· This week the onesare away at Bedworth and the boys would be grateful for a big away support to see us through this difficult fixture. Bedworth are currently just above us in the league with, like us, one win but, crucially, they have three extra bonus points than us and lead us by three. This infers they have not lost their games by much and their only win was Stratford away. If we win we will go above them which will be good.

· The second XV are playing at home v Hinckley.

· The third XV are at home v Wellesbourne.

· The colts are away at Leamington.

· The M&J section are organizing a Christmas Ball for the whole club on Sat 3rd Dec at the Holiday Inn, Kenilworth. Further information on this can be obtained from Ian Franks (i.franks@ntlworld.com). Cost is £26.95 per head.

· The club has also decided not to run its normal Christmas Raffle and, instead, we wish to concentrate our efforts on the annual RFU Draw. The club gets a big proportion of the tickets we sell so it would be good if we could sell a lot. Tickets will soon be issued so look out for them.

· Do you have any old Kenilworth strips lying in your wardrobe. If so then they can be put to good use in conjunction in a Kit Amnesty with Jet Fuel, and all for a good cause with the strips being shipped to Africa. Please look them out and wash them if needed and bring them to the club. You can do this now or we may well have a given day when strips can be returned to the club with no questions asked! Watch this space.

· The Rugby World Cup is now at the final stage and the club will be open on Sunday for the New Zealand v France final. Full breakfasts or butties are being served and our bar is also open for those who wish an early beer.

· Please remember to pay your subs for this season promptly. The membership card system is now up and running and you will be given one when you pay your subs. To avoid postage we would be grateful if you could collect your card from behind the bar, this includes the Life Members. The card is an easy way to pay for your beer as you simply load it up with money and pass over the card when you are at the bar. You can even load it up with your credit card and no ‘real’ money passes hands! Approximately 30% of the bar take is now by card.

· We are hosting a Quiz Night on Friday 4th Nov and details can be seen on the web site. Dom & Dean are working hard on the questions and it should be a very good night and make sure your team includes youngsters and females – I have seen some of the questions! Also bring along a Firework. Food will be available on the night.

· There is another COMEDY NIGHT on 8th Dec which is being called a “GONG SHOW with up to 20 acts battling to beat the gong and win your vote”.

· The M&J section are having a Halloween Party on the 29th Oct and everyone is welcome.

· The club are organizing another SPORTING DINNER and this is on Fri 25th Nov. One of the speakers is our ex coach, Peter Rossborough and another superb speaker is being lined up. More info can be obtained from social@kenilworthrugby.co.uk

· Please put the 17th Nov in your dairy. We are planning an EGM and full notification and details will be issued in due course. The EGM is to make some changes to the club constitution.

· Ruck & Maul is a local rugby show on BBC Cov & Warwickshire radio on Friday nights from 7-8pm. They have got (quote them!) lots of great stuff including an interview with David Duckham who talks fondly about King Heny VIII school, Old Coventrians, Coventry and that great Barbarians match. There will be a review of Coventry’s recent performances and the team/player of the month will be awarded. Mike Umaga from Nuneaton is in the studio and there are clips from a day out at Claverdon RFC.
