Some more good weather graced Newquay's second game of the season.
The game proved to be well worth the long trip to Saltash as Newquay turned on the style. Eddie Pearce opened the scoring going over after some good early rucking. Ewan Gilroy Simpson added another, taking the ball well at a line out and driving though. When Ethan Morgan showed good pace before feeding the ball out to Eddie Pearce who went over for his second, it looked like it could be a whitewash. However Saltash piled forward at the restart and after winning the ball from a line out on the right showed good pace and passing to feed the ball out to the left and score. Unperturbed, Ethan Morgan restored the margin and shortly after Finn Collins extended the lead going over after Newquay won a scrum against a Saltash put in. Despite the widening margin Saltash were making Newquay work hard for it, taking the ball from Newquay at a line out line and going over to score. Newquay went on the offensive once more, Ben Henwood showing a good turn of pace on the wing and Robin Blackman being pushed into touch just before the line. Saltash doggedly kept Newquay at bay and moments later broke out to race through and score. However shortly after Perran Heaman shrugged of the attentions of two Saltash defenders as he forced his way over. Saltash started to struggle against the unrelenting pressure from Newquay whose movement and support play only improved as the game went on and when hooker Tyler Wason once again won the scrum strong powerful running from Ewan Gilroy -Simpson and Ben Hunt coupled with some slick passing saw the ball out to the left wing for Lewis Hollings to cross for an easy score. Saltash were never down hearted but Newquay were now completely in command and more fine rucking saw Ewan over once again. Arthur Bygrave twisted and turned with his usual aplomb to slip through and add to the tally. Saltash had some small consolation as they intercepted a pass to race away and pull one back before normal serivce resumed with Ethan morgan diving over in dramatic style for the final score of the game. Saltash went looking for further consolation but when it looked like they'd managed to break through on the left Jack Higginson made a cruching tackle to deny them.
Two Man of the Match: Ewan Gilory-Simpson (powerful running) and Ben Henwood (great tackling).
