Last weekend was a very busy time for the club, including very healthy bar takings, and it kicked off with a truly superb Sporting Dinner with Darren Garforth and Neil Smith. The first league game followed on the Saturday and, unfortunately, this ended in defeat for our young squad, 15-31, to an experienced Old Halesonians side who finished in the top four last season. Our try scorers were Gareth Renowden and new prop Chris Muncaster with Tom Kendall scoring the extras. The club was buzzing on Sunday with the M&J’s registration day followed by the debut game of the Kenilworth Barbarians against Princethorpe Old Boys in memory of Alex Wallis. How PAG managed it I do not know but he manufactured a 34-34 draw in a superb end to end game enjoyed by all. Also enjoyed was the Moroccan Lamb and couscous and a large crowd, including lots of young people, stayed on after the game to enjoy the beer and wine that was on offer. Highlight of the day was the presentation of a Barbarians shirt (with AW on the back) to Alex’s family. Pictures of both games are on the web site or can be viewed at

One thing for sure is that PAG’s Barbarians may never have to change their shirt for a colour clash!!
Also launched last week was the new web site (www.kenilworthrugby.co.uk) and this was very well received – any comment you have on the content of the site would be very much appreciated, good or bad. You will even find this find news item on it.
This weekend the ones are away at the Ludlow Food Festival, sorry Ludlow Rugby Club, kick off 3pm and the bus leaves our place at 11am – there are spaces and supporters are welcome for a small fee. Ludlow won their game last week away at Dunlop, 31-26. The address of the ground is The Linney, Ludlow, SY8 1EE.
The seconds are down to play Rugby Lions 2’s (Rusty, Clements, Wadey and all, plus more!) at home while the threes are away at Old Laurentians. The colts are in the pool, I believe. Please check that these games are on.
The Rugby World Cup kicks off this weekend and the club will be open for the England game on Saturday and the Wales game on Sunday (details enclosed) and we have adjusted our license to allow us to sell alcohol from 8am. Paul will be doing breakfasts but you need to book in for these. Please speak to Paul direct to book your breakfast, be it a bacon buttie or a full English.
On the 17th Sept (v Worcester Wanderers at home) there is a Former Players Lunch and if you wish to attend this then please contact Pete Boyle or Geof Jordan.
The Six Nations closing date for applications for tickets is the 7th Oct. You must be a fully paid up member to apply for and receive tickets.
