Yatton Scorers - Tries 2 J Tucker, N Serman, S Brain, L Bishop.
‘ Yatton 3rds surprised themselves during early stages of season opener’
It didn’t seem a good start when Yatton’s 3rd XV were forced to travel to Oldfield with three players short and no replacements, to do battle against their first league opponents of this season.
But in the spirit of 3rd Team rugby, the Bath side proved to be the perfect hosts and loaned some players to wear the amber and black and let the game commence.
It was felt that Yatton would be the distinct underdogs and they even surprised themselves by being first on the scoreboard and in fact raced into a two try lead within a short period of time.
Oldfield were rattled, realising that that wasn’t supposed to happen, and began to concentrated on their points tally.
Both sides enjoyed the great effort put into the match with free flowing rugby throughout. It was Oldfield who eventually managed 7 tries while the tired but satisfied travellers meander back home having clocked up 5 tries through Jordan Tucker’s brace and one a piece for Neil Serman, Stu Brain and Liam Bishop.
This coming Saturday Yatton 3rd XV are at home entertaining St Bernadettes 3rds
