Kenilworth entertained Nuneaton Old Edwardians RFC and Pinley RFC on Saturday 20th August in a triangular 10's tournament at Glasshouse Lane. The other invited teams who had accepted did not attend!

With the pitch in immaculate condition, Kenilworth were able to execute their fast flowing attacking game plan to win both their matches comfortably and move on to this weekends full fixture against Peterborough RFC at home in some confidence.

First up was Nuneaton Old 'Eds', who perform at the same level as the home side this season, but in the eastern section, giving a good insight to the level of rugby Kenilworth will face. Kenilworth were able to dominate from the first whistle through strong commitment in the tackle and excellent handling, scoring freely in the first half against their larger opposition. Credit to Nuneaton who worked their way in to the game to score a couple of tries themselves, but were ultimately unable to halt the blue tide of attacks, with Kenilworth scoring several tries from backs and forwards in the second half to secure a comfortable win.

Kenilworth were straight back in to action against Coventry side Pinley, again a large and physical side, who showed plenty of endeavour but ultimately lacked the cutting edge that was enjoyed throughout the Kenilworth squad, K's again winning the game comfortably.

The day was a great success, with the large Kenilworth squad all enjoying game time and the new additions fitting in well. Morale and spirit in the team appears to be growing, and the team, and its supporters, can look forward to the Midlands One campaign with some excitement.

The final pre season warm up game takes place this weekend when Peterborough, who were also relegated from NL3m last season, come to Kenilworth, 3pm kick off.

Kenilworth also announce the signing of 24yr old back row player Phil Dickson from Nuneaton Old Eds and also welcome back the popular back Andy Whitehall who has returned after two years living and working in Australia (picture enclosed). Discussions are on going with a number of other players.

There are still some places available for the Sporting Dinner at the club on Fri 2nd Sept with Darren Garforth and Neil Smith speaking. This is part of Kenilworth’s ‘Game On’ weekend to mark the opening of the season on the Saturday, v Old Halesonians at home. At the lunch it is planned to launch the club’s new web site. The weekend’s activities will conclude on the Sunday with the Minis and Juniors registration day in the morning, followed by the inaugural Kenilworth Barbarians game against Princethorpe Old Boys, in memory of Alex Wallis.
