SCRATCH BUCKS TEAM IMPRESSES AT LEDBURY DEVELOPMENT FESTIVAL
The annual Ledbury B Team Festival is a great opportunity for the development squads at larger clubs to have a competitive tournament day in their own right. Now in its second year, the “friendly” festival has already become established as a time for players with potential to show how they have grafted and learnt over the season.
As always, the festival doesn’t happen without volunteers giving up their time so once again Malvern U13s extend their thanks to our friendly rivals Ledbury RFC for an excellently run festival.
In their first round match against the hosts the score was all square at one try each after a typically fierce and competitive first half. In the second half the Bucks pulled ahead after some fluid back line play from Ladd and Oakley created space for Hayes to break. He was held up on the try line but the hard working pack were first to the breakdown and after securing the ball it was Williamson who crashed over for an excellent team try. The lead spurred the team on and with Forsyth continually making ground Malvern scored two further tries for a good win.
In the final match against Luctonians a tired Malvern squad were unable to secure possession and struggled to contain a much bigger Lucs team. Some resolute and fearless defending from a contingent of U12 squad conscripts who were drafted in to support a depleted U13 squad showed how much the Malvern set up has come on this season. Despite this, the scratch Bucks conceded three tries with no reply but secured a well deserved runners up position.
