Malvern Stags U13 - 17
Droitwich U13 - 14
A second minute try from an excellent Robinson break on the left wing was just reward for a powerful Stags start in the heavy conditions. Having received the ball, the Malvern pack immediately secured it and put together a series of short tight runs. Quick ball from scrum half Purcell to Atkins set Batty up for a run at the Droitwich defence that pulled them out of shape. A simple lay off to Robinson was then enough for the first score with Whiteman ever present on his shoulder to cover. Batty then converted for the extras.
Droitwich worked their way back into the game but some excellent tackling prevented them from making anything from a line out close to the Malvern five yard line. The Stags countered with some well worked running moves to push out of their half. With the whole team competing for the ball at the rucks they soon found their way to the try line to add a second score through Robinson.
Before half time, Droitwich pulled back two tries with conversions to take the lead as the Stags legs felt the effect of playing uphill in the mud. The welcome return of Richards to the pack helped keep things on an even keel and prevented Droitwich from making too much of the first half advantage.
Malvern opened the second half with a try to retake the lead. With three points separating them both teams set about testing each other as the weather deteriorated. The Stags remained resolute and kept the game under control with some top drawer tackling and organisation to stop their defence being overrun as Droitwich chased the game.
Bromsgrove U13 – 12
Malvern Stags U13 - 5
An early Malvern try was not enough to keep them in the game as a fresh Bromsgrove team went on to score two tries to secure the game. A third try of the day for Robinson was created with some more excellent forward play as the Stags continued to be quicker and more powerful at the breakdown. A series of immense rucks and mauls panicked Bromsgrove and having made fifty yards through the middle it was a break to the left that secured the points.
Bromsgrove pulled back two tries as Malvern struggled to keep up. Despite the mounting injuries and key players playing out of position the Stags worked hard and made Bromsgrove work for every single opportunity to put points past them.
