Birmingham & Solihull travel to Goldington Road this Friday (11th February kick off 7.45pm) to take on Bedford Blues in, what will be, the penultimate game in Stage 1 of the current Championship season.
Bedford are one of the form sides of the RFU Championship this season, currently second only to runaway leaders Worcester. In contrast, Bees remain at the foot of the table and are certain to feature in the Relegation Playoffs in Stage 2 of the season. However they go into Friday evening’s game in good spirits after recent good performances against both Rotherham and Bristol. They will be keen to secure another win and with it an important extra point which will be carried forward into the forthcoming Playoffs.
Speaking after his side’s 16-26 loss at home to Bristol on Sunday, Assistant Coach Eugene Martin said, “We are beginning to see a real improvement in our game – we competed well in every department for a full 80 minutes and were unlucky not to get anything out of game against a strong Bristol outfit. When you take into account that the Bristol fixture came just five days after our great win over Rotherham, the whole squad can take great credit and encouragement from our recent performances.”
Looking forward to Friday’s game, Eugene Martin added, “Bedford have proved themselves to be a side of real quality this year and Goldington Road is always a tough place to visit. That been said, we’ve got everything to play for and nothing to lose so we’re looking forward to maintaining the tempo we’re generated over recent weeks.”
