BISHOP Auckland Rugby Club has unveiled key personnel for the new season as warm-up matches get underway.

Paul Brookes is captain for the second season in a row while Gareth Edwards

steps up to vice-captain.

Club coach is Steve Colwell and the Co Durham club are delighted to have

secured the services of Newcastle Falcons player Ed Williamson as assistant

club coach.

Ed is a first team player for the Falcons and will work with Bishops

primarily on forwards play.

Peter Gallone takes on a new role for the club as first team manager,

looking after players’ welfare and day to day running of the team. Steve

Rowell is the new club physio.

Brookes said the club’s number one aim is to achieve promotion from Durham

and Northumberland League 3.

“There is a great spirit within our club, backed by an excellent team

working behind the scenes who have thrown their full support behind

everything the senior team is aiming to achieve this season,” he said.

Bishops started pre-season on Saturday at Ponteland, who lie two divisions

above. The Bishop pack bossed the forwards play with strong performances

from Gallone and Danny Ross.

But with new players coming in the backs struggled to gel. Andrew Brown

provided one stand out moment with a breath-taking burst of pace to

puncture the Ponteland defence and score. The game ended Ponteland four

tries to Bishop's one.

- New players are always welcome at the club. Training is 7pm on Tuesdays

and Thursdays at Westmills playing fields.
