MILLWALL put in a “cup final” performance to overcome Essex Division 1 rivals Dagenham on Saturday, said coach Dave Roberts.
Hailing the important away league win, Roberts said: “I have never seen us come together as a team in the same way as we did for this match.
“We had built this game up with a bit of cup final hype and it showed in our performance.”
Roberts described the match as the “hardest fought game” of the season, adding: “The guys went to war for each other.”
James Reilly touched down twice for Millwall with Mike Foulds, Gareth Williams, Jurijus Ivanovas and Dave Connors also getting a try a piece, while Dom Sutherland scored the remainder of the points at the kicking tee.
Now Roberts is looking forward to some real cup action in Millwall's next match against high-flying Suffolk outfit Thurston in the EDF Vase.
Millwall's second team lost out on gaining a draw against Campion II with just three minutes left on the clock. Drawing 15-15, Campion intercepted a Millwall pass and ran in a converted try to triumph 15-22 on Millwall Park.
Both Millwall's third and second teams also suffered defeat at the hands of Eton Manor III and East London III respectively.
