Painswick U13s 12
Malvern U13s 56
An impressively ruthless display from Malvern saw them create ten tries while a resolute defence kept Painswick at arm’s length.
Malvern got off to their customary quick start when, having initially lost possession, their forwards took to the task and immediately rucked it back from Painswick. The ball was then released to Harry Robinson who scored the first of his seven tries with a trademark run around the wings. Jack Curtis added the second try with a scramble for the line after Malvern drove Painswick back on their right flank.
The Malvern forwards dominated the rucks for the remainder of the half with some fine performances from Stan Pritchard and Ieuan Howells keeping Painswick out of the game for long periods. The home side kept their heads up and managed to pull back a try late in the first half with a good passage of play through their backs but this came after Robinson had added a further two and Curtis his second to give Malvern a four try advantage.
Towards the end of the half, Joe Whiteman found a seemingly impossible path through the Painswick defence to create a fine individual try that was arguably the best of the match.
The second half continued with Malvern dominance in the rucks creating a further three try scoring opportunities for Robinson.
The very good Painswick scrum and maul was an ongoing headache for the visitors but for the most part Malvern cancelled this out by making their tackles count with some notable contributions from Glenn Potter and Keiran Holmes.
Painswick showed tremendous character to come back with a consolation try before the final whistle but Malvern were in control of the game and had worked hard for their lead.
