Recently, Seghilll RFC held a Wooden Spoon Night, to raise money for the Wooden Spoon - rugby union's own charity.

The Wooden Spoon began on a fateful day in 1983, when Englans'd defeat by Ireland in the 6 Nations, left them languishing at the bottom of the table, and a group of English supporters were presented with a wooden spoon. The charity was formed soon afterwards, and now supports mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children, and has committed over £13 million in spending for projects for young people.

At the event at Seghill, John Reid, Chairman of Northumberland Wooden Spoon, presented a cheque for £3000 to George Arnott, Seghill President, as a grant towards a stairlift at the club.

"With the bar and catering facilities at Seghill being upstairs, the stairlift will be invaluable in providing access to club members and vistors who would otherwise have difficulty getting upstairs." said George.
