We are now entering the business end in part one of this season's league campaign where every bonus point will be vital in securing a top eight spot and so avoiding the relegation battle that would ensue. With Hawick sitting at fourth from bottom before this clash with Glasgow Hawks a victory was essential but much will depend on the results that Stirling County manage over the coming weeks.

Hawick started with a considerably weaker side without the services of injured Stuart Hogg who has been showing remarkable form in all his games this season. Glasgow Hawks looked a big powerful side and Hawick were going to have their worked cut out to contain them.

Two Neil Renwick penalties got Hawick of to a good start and a 6-0 lead which would have been much better had the other two kickable attempts went over. Hawks then clicked into gear their strong running winger set up a try in far corner which they failed to convert. Hawick had their moments but much of the play was coming from Hawks who contributed a penalty and one more unconverted try to reach half time leading by 13 points to 6.

The second half started as the first half had finished with Hawks on the attack and a converted try put them in a commanding position at 20-6. Hawick then had their best spell of the match but could not breach a good Hawks defence. Eventually Rory Hutton ran in at the posts for a deserved try which he converted to bring Hawick back into contention at 13-20. With time slipping away a very dubious penalty by Hawks lost Hawick that vital losing bonus point and Hawks ran out winners by 23 points to 13.
