This was Worcesters first competitive match of the season, and it was
lovely to see the previous months hard work pay off. Three twenty minute
sessions were played, and allthough the first ten minutes was
competitive, Towcester were soon struggling. The Wild Ones handling, in
poor conditions, was terrific. They played with confidence, and purpose.
The forwards, allthough fairly even in the set piece, absolutely
dominated the open play areas, and in particular the rucks, where every
50 50 ball was won. With Lawrence Stephens, Brad Smith and Ed Griffiths,
making the hard yards, the power of Will Shaw, and the rest of the
forwards, taking the ball through the gain line, the backs enjoyed a
glut of ball. With Cameron Hunter orchestrating things at fly half, Oli
Gore and Sam Hughes in the centre, gave flyer Willem Stanley the
opportunity to score five tries. Will Tibbetts at full back mesmerised
the Towcester defence all morning with his pace, and fast feet, and he
scored twice. Max Smith scored a lovely individual try, which he
converted himself. George Wooton scored a fine try from a five metre
scrum. Cameron Hunter, also scored a try with a break from a simple show
and go,and he chipped in with five conversions. Bradley Smith , crashed
over for two tries, showing his usual pace and power. Sam Hughes, on his
impressive debut, kicked five conversions, and to complete the scoring
Oli Gore drop kicked the final conversion. Fixtures throughout the
season, will get much harder, but it was a good start to the season for
the under 12s.
